Studio Policy 2022

Thank you for choosing to study with me for your music education needs. To ensure that you/your child receives the most effective teaching possible, I have established the below policies. I do appreciate that not everybody may be familiar with what is involved with piano lessons, so please feel welcome to contact me to discuss any of the below!

  1. Tuition is structured per term. Payment for the term’s lessons is usually invoiced before the first lesson of each term.

  2. The teaching dates correspond with school terms. Additional lessons during the school holidays are sometimes available, organised on an as-needed basis.

  3. Tuition covers all one-on-one lessons, with the addition of occasional masterclass opportunities, mock-AMEB exams, and an end of year concert where the whole family can attend (pending Covid-19 restrictions).

  4. Missed lesson policy: your regular lesson time is created just for you and it is rarely possible to accommodate changes without sufficient notice. The tuition fee covers much more than just a weekly lesson - it includes individualised lesson planning, time spent finding appropriate music, ongoing professional development, research into the latest effective teaching strategies, access/subscriptions to professional resources, etc. even when the student cannot attend on the day.

    • Excursions are planned well in advance, so lessons missed due to school excursions without seven days notice will be forfeited. With sufficient notice, another lesson time will be scheduled.

    • For students who are unwell or learning from home, please consider a Zoom lesson in the regular time slot instead. Children who are unwell should not attend their lesson as other people use the same equipment.

  5. Practice: students make a commitment to practice regularly between lessons. Homework goals are communicated in each lesson and there is a reasonable expectation that these goals are met.

  6. Communication: students and parents can contact me by email anytime, or by phone/SMS before 10pm. I am committed to the personal and musical success of each and every student. Therefore, I expect all parents and students to regularly update me with any issues that arise so that I can help find the best solution. I am less scary in real life, and appreciate open and honest communication wherever possible.

  7. I will ensure that the requisite number of lessons are provided each term (with considerations made for public holidays and staff development days). If I need to cancel a lesson due to illness or other unforeseen emergency, I will either provide the lesson via Zoom in the regular time slot, provide a lesson credit/reschedule, or refund the appropriate money.

  8. Lesson materials: tuition does not cover the cost of piano books, or registration fees for exams and eisteddfods.

  9. If for any reason you must stop lessons, please provide me with written notification four weeks before the end of the current term.

  10. Agreement to terms: sending a student to attend piano lessons after reading this studio policy indicates agreement with the terms of the policy.
