Teaching Philosophy
I am passionate about what I do. I consider it a privilege to be able to share music with people every day, be it on stage, in rehearsal, or in a teaching studio. I have worked incredibly hard over many years to acquire the skills and expertise to become a competent performer and music instructor, and I take my job very seriously.
I acknowledge that not every student wants to make music a career, and for many, it may be a hobby that (I hope) endures for a lifetime. My aim is to teach each and every student the beauty, enjoyment, and satisfaction of communicating through music. The benefits of a music education on a child’s cognitive, emotional, and even behavioural development have long been undisputed, and I believe music is essential to a well-rounded school education.
I try to make lessons fun, productive, interesting, and rewarding, but in turn, I expect students to practice regularly at home. The duration and frequency of practice sessions will depend on the student, but fundamentally, I am a teacher, not a magician. The best progress is most often achieved through smaller, regular practice sessions throughout the week.
I teach a wide range of ages and abilities, from advanced, diploma-level students, to complete beginners, and adults learning just for fun! For information about my music studio, please read my 2022 studio policy here.
